Unit Of Measures

Units of Measure define how items are counted, bought and sold. Standardising them keeps quantities consistent from stock count through to invoice, and decides how precisely a quantity can be expressed.

Go to Inventory > Settings (top right) > Units.

Decimals is the setting worth thinking about. Set it to 0 for units that cannot be fractional — you cannot sell half a laptop — and higher for weight or volume. It prevents quantities that make no physical sense.

Action Buttons & Management

Edit changes a unit; Delete removes one never used. A unit assigned to items cannot be deleted, since the quantities recorded against it would lose their meaning.

Decimals are enforced

A unit's decimal setting is enforced on every saved quantity, everywhere in the ERP. A unit defined with 0 decimals — Set, Nos, Each — will not accept a fractional quantity on an order, a receipt, an adjustment or anything else.

This matters more than it looks. A receipt stored as 986.5 of a whole-number unit displays as 987 on the purchase order, pre-fills the supplier invoice at 987, and then refuses its own suggestion because the stored figure is lower. Enforcing the decimals at the point of saving is what stops that class of problem at source.

If you genuinely need to record halves of something, give the unit a decimal place rather than working around the rule — the rule is the thing keeping the figures consistent.
