Account Tags
Account Tags label ledger accounts for reporting that cuts across the chart of accounts. Where classes and groups give one fixed hierarchy, tags let you group accounts a second way without disturbing it.
Where to find it
Go to Financial Statement > General Ledger > Settings > Account Tags.
Adding a New Account Tag
Click Add New to open the popup, enter the tag name and description, then click Add.
| Field | Required | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Name | Yes | The tag as it appears when assigning it to accounts. |
| Description | No | What the tag is for, which matters once several people are using them. |
Why tags exist alongside groups
An account belongs to exactly one group, and that hierarchy is fixed by how financial statements must be presented. Tags are the second dimension — a way to pull together accounts that report in different places but belong together for some other purpose.
| Example tag | Gathers |
|---|---|
| Cash-affecting | Accounts relevant to a cash flow view, across several groups. |
| Statutory | Accounts needed for a regulatory return. |
| Discontinued | Accounts from a closed part of the business, kept separable in reporting. |
Tags do not change any posting. They are a reporting label only, which is exactly why they are safe to add later — assigning one to an account has no effect on the balances already in it.
Assigning a tag
Tags are applied on the account itself — see the Tags field in GL Accounts. An account can carry more than one.
