Rezo Shifts and Cash-up
A shift is a period of trading with money counted at each end. Rezo records what the till took, what was counted, and the difference between the two — and posts that difference rather than quietly absorbing it. Cash-up is where a restaurant finds out whether its evening balanced.
Shift statuses
| Status | Means |
|---|---|
| Open | Trading. |
| Closed | Counted and finished. |
| Posted | The variance has been posted to the ledger. |
Cashing up
At the end of a shift the takings are counted and entered against what the till says it took, by payment type. The difference is the variance.
| Figure | Means |
|---|---|
| Expected | What the shift's orders say was taken. |
| Counted | What is actually in the drawer. |
| Variance | The difference, over or under. |
Two permissions
| Area | Grants |
|---|---|
| Shift Cash-up | Counting the shift. |
| Close Shift / Post Variance | Closing it and posting the difference. |
These are deliberately separate. The person who counts the drawer should not be the person who decides what the difference was and books it away — that is the basic control in every cash business, and splitting the two permissions is how the ERP supports it.
What posting does
Posting the variance puts the over or under into the ledger, so cash differences accumulate somewhere visible instead of being rounded off in the till. A shift that is consistently under by a similar amount is a pattern, and it is only a pattern if the differences were recorded.
Servers
The Servers tab reports by server — what each took, and what they comped, voided or discounted. Read together with the shift variance it is the fullest picture a restaurant has of where money went.
