Work Order Issue

Work Order Issue

Issuing is how raw materials leave stock and attach to a work order. The bill of materials sets what an order needs, but production rarely runs exactly to plan — parts break, material is short, an extra component turns out to be needed. The Issue screen is where those movements are recorded.

Where to find it

Go to Manufacturing > Issues, or open an issue from a work order.

Why BOM matters here

Every manufacturable item needs a Bill of Materials. Without one the system will not let you raise a work order at all, because the BOM is what the issue draws its requirement list from.

Two ways components get issued

The list comes fromThe item's defined BOM.The components entered on the work order.

Issuing additional items

Beyond the BOM, a run may need extra material or a service — a part damaged in handling, a shortage made up from elsewhere, an operation that was not planned for. These are issued to the work order the same way, so the order's cost reflects what was genuinely consumed rather than what was estimated.

A negative or invalid quantity is rejected outright. To reverse an over-issue, correct the issue itself rather than entering a negative line.

What it does to your books

Issuing moves value out of raw material stock and into the work order. It does not create a cost on its own — the cost lands when the finished item is received in Production, carrying everything issued and costed against the order.
