Virtual Items
The Virtual Item List manages alias records for existing stock items. A virtual item lets you sell the same physical product under a different name or code — for a customer who wants their own part number, or for separate branding — while the stock stays with the parent item.
Where to find it
Go to Inventory > Virtual Item.
How a virtual item behaves
Selling a virtual item deducts stock from the parent item automatically. There is no separate stock balance to maintain, and no risk of the two drifting apart.
Add New Virtual Item
+ Add New creates an alias. During setup you link the virtual name and code to an existing parent item, and define any unit conversion where the alias is sold in a different unit from the parent.

| Virtual Code | The alias code used on documents. |
| Description | The alias name the customer sees. |
| Parent Item | The physical item stock is drawn from. |
| Unit conversion | The ratio, where the alias is sold in a different unit. |
Use a virtual item when one physical product needs a second identity. Use a kit when several products are sold together — aliasing and bundling solve different problems.
