MaintenPro's General settings are short, and every one of them changes how the app behaves day to day. Set them before you raise your first job: the approval switch in particular is awkward to change once people have learned one way of working.
Workflow
| Setting | What it does |
| New jobs need approval | On, a new job starts Pending Approval and work cannot begin until it is approved or assigned. Off, work can start the moment the job is raised. |
See The job workflow for exactly which transitions each setting allows.
Preventive Maintenance
| Setting | What it does |
| Raise due jobs automatically every day | Schedules inside their lead time raise their job on their own. Off, somebody must press Raise Job Now. |
| Default lead time (days) | The lead time a new schedule starts with. Must be a whole number of days. |
Spare Parts and Labour
| Setting | What it does |
| Default parts location | Where spare parts are issued from unless the user changes it. |
| Spare parts expense account | The account charged when parts are issued. Left as Use each item's inventory adjustment account, each item goes to its own. |
| Own labour rate per hour | What an hour of your own technicians' time is costed at on a job. For reporting only — it posts nothing. |
Choosing the parts account
| Choice | Suits |
| Each item's own account | Different part categories should hit different accounts, and your item setup already reflects that. |
| One maintenance account | Maintenance spend is managed as a single budget and you want it in one place regardless of what was used. |
Who can change them
Saving needs MaintenPro Settings permission. Without it the tab is visible but the save is refused with a message saying so.
The labour rate is a costing rate, not a payroll rate. It exists so that a job showing four hours of work does not appear to have cost nothing. Choose a fully-loaded figure if you want the reports to reflect what the time really costs you.
