Branches
Branches are the first level of dimension — the sites, regions or divisions you want to see costs and revenue for separately. Once a branch exists it appears on entry screens, and every transaction tagged with it can be reported on independently of the company total.
Where to find it
Go to Branches in the dimensions module. The screen appears only when dimensions are enabled in Company Setup.
What the list shows
| Column | Description |
|---|---|
| Branch Code | The short reference the branch is identified by. |
| Branch Name | Its full name. |
| Location | The inventory location associated with it. |
| Work Centre | The manufacturing work centre, where one applies. All Centres shows every branch. |
| Start Date | When the branch opened. |
| Status | Active or Closed. |
Adding a branch
| Field | Required | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Branch Code | Yes | A unique short reference. Rejected if left empty. |
| Name | Yes | The branch name. Also required. |
| Start Date | No | When it opened. Must be a valid date. |
| Tags | No | Account tags for grouping in reports. |
| Memo | No | Notes about the branch. |
Closing and reopening
| Action | What it does |
|---|---|
| Close This branch | Stops it appearing on new transactions. History is kept. |
| Re-open This branch | Puts a closed branch back into use. |
| Delete This branch | Removes it entirely. |
Close a branch rather than deleting it. Closing keeps every transaction ever tagged to it readable in the reports; deleting a branch that has history leaves those figures with nothing to group under.
Choosing codes
Branch codes appear in dropdowns on every entry screen and in report headings, so keep them short and recognisable. Codes that mean something to whoever is entering the transaction get tagged correctly; opaque ones get left blank.
