New Estimate

New Estimate

An Estimate sets out expected costs and terms before a deal is firm. It is prepared from judgement, history and experience rather than exact figures — a way to give a customer a credible number when the precise one is not yet knowable.

Where to find it

Go to CRM > New > Estimate.

Steps to Create a New Estimate

  1. Open CRM > New > Estimate.
  2. Select the Customer — required, so the estimate is tied to an account.
  3. Set the date and validity.
  4. Add the items or services with estimated quantities and prices.
  5. Save, then send it.

Line itemsYesWhat is being estimated, with quantity and price.
TermsNoAny conditions attached to the figures.
An estimate is indicative, but customers rarely hear the distinction. Whatever number you give is the one they will hold you to when the quotation arrives — so state the assumptions behind it in the terms.

Where estimates lead

An accepted estimate can be converted into a sales order to begin fulfilment. Where the customer wants a firm priced offer first, raise a quotation instead.
