Rules is where the society's own policy is written into the system — how long the waiting period is, when a membership lapses, what ages dependents lose cover at, and how long after a death a claim can still be made. These are the decisions that decide who gets paid.
Where to find it
Go to BurialPro > Settings > Rules.
Membership lifecycle
| Rule | What it controls |
| Auto-activate after waiting period | Whether members go on cover automatically once the waiting period ends. |
| Lapse after (months) | How many unpaid months before a membership lapses. |
| Bill premium in advance | Whether premiums are charged ahead of the period or after it. |
Dependent cover limits
| Rule | What it controls |
| Max children | How many children one policy covers. |
| Max parents | The parent limit. |
| Max extended dependants | The extended family limit. |
| Child age limit | The age at which a child loses cover. |
| Auto age-out children | Whether cover ends automatically at that age. |
| Enforce each product's own age band | Whether product-level age bands override these figures. |
| Max premium as multiple of plan rate | A ceiling on what a policy's total premium can reach. |
Claims
| Rule | What it controls |
| Claim window (days from death) | How long a family has to report a death. |
| Block claims on lapsed policies | Whether a lapsed member's claim is refused. |
| Allow Partial Payouts | Whether a claim can be paid in instalments. |
| Maximum any single amount | A ceiling on one payout. |
These rules are the society's constitution in software. Change one and it applies to everybody immediately, including members who joined under the old terms — so a rule change is a committee decision, not an administrative one.
Reminders
| Setting | What it controls |
| Arrears reminder — day of month | When arrears messages go out. |
| Arrears reminder — minimum owed | How much must be owed before a member is chased. |
| Instalment reminder — day of month | When the payment reminder is sent. |
Identity validation
Omang exact length and the digits-only rule set what a valid national ID looks like. Members failing validation are flagged on the Overview under data quality.
