Burial Society
BurialPro runs a burial society. Members join and pay a monthly contribution, their dependents are covered, and when a death occurs a bereavement claim is assessed and paid out. The module handles the whole membership lifecycle, the money in and out, and the SMS that keeps members informed.
The membership lifecycle
| Stage | What it means |
|---|---|
| Captured | Recorded, going through the onboarding workflow. |
| Waiting Period | Approved but not yet on cover — claims are not payable yet. |
| Active | On cover. Contributions are due and claims can be made. |
| Lapsed | Contributions stopped for too long. Cover may be blocked. |
| Terminated | Membership ended. Only a terminated member can rejoin. |
| Deceased | A claim has been paid on the member. |
The waiting period exists to stop someone joining after a death and claiming immediately. A member moved to Active by hand skips it — which is exactly the case the rule was written for.
Money in and out
| Direction | Screen | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| In | Contributions | Monthly premiums, joining fees and Motshelo contributions. |
| Out | Claims | Bereavement payouts, in full or in parts. |
| Out | Refunds | Money returned to a member. |
Who is covered
A member's cover extends to their dependents — children, parents and extended family — within the limits set on the cover product. Children age out automatically at the configured limit.
Changing a membership
Amendments handle everything that changes after joining: adding or removing a dependent, upgrading or downgrading cover, updating details, or terminating the membership. Each is logged, approved and then applied.
