BOM (Bills Of Material)

BOM (Bills Of Material)

Bills of Materials are the component lists that make a product. Once a BOM is defined for an item you never rebuild it — every work order for that item draws its requirements from here, and the Issue screen follows the same list. This page shows every BOM you have created.

Where to find it

Go to Manufacturing > BOM.

What a BOM does

A BOM ties a main item to the components required to produce it. It is what makes production repeatable: define the recipe once, and each run of the same product issues the same materials without anyone listing them again.

Manual BOM

Some production does not fit a fixed recipe — sizes, colours and specifications vary from job to job. Enable Manual BOM under Setup > Preferences and the components are then entered on the work order itself, at the time it is created.

Searching the list

  1. Select a Category.
  2. Select an Item Type.
  3. Select a Tax Type.
  4. Enter a term in the search box.
  5. Click Search.
A BOM is required before a work order can be raised against an item. If an item will not accept a work order, the missing BOM is almost always why.
