Foreign Item Codes (UPC/EAN)

Foreign Item Codes (UPC/EAN)

Foreign Item Codes record external barcodes — UPC and EAN — against your items. They let a product be found by the code printed on its packaging by the manufacturer, rather than only by your own internal item code.

Where to find it

Go to Items and Inventory > Settings > Foreign Item Codes.

Adding a code

  1. Select the Item the code belongs to.
  2. Enter the UPC/EAN code and the Quantity it represents.
  3. Enter a Description and select a Category.
  4. Click Add.

Field reference

FieldDescription
ItemThe stock item the external code maps to.
UPC / EAN codeThe barcode printed on the manufacturer's packaging.
QuantityHow many units of your item the scanned code represents. A case barcode may equal twelve units.
DescriptionWhat the code refers to, for your own reference.
CategoryThe group the code is filed under.
Quantity is what makes this more than an alternative code. Mapping an outer-case barcode to twelve units means scanning the case adds twelve, not one — which is exactly what you want at goods receipt.
