Payroll Allowances Import
The Payroll Allowances import loads the allowance and deduction definitions payroll is built from. It runs before employees, because an employee record references the allowances that apply to them.
Where to find it
Go to Setup > Import Export > HRM & Payroll Allowances.
Order matters in payroll: allowances first, then grades, then employees. Importing employees before their allowances exist leaves records that have to be revisited.
Format Data
Use the sample file and keep its headers and values as given. The importer matches on the header row and rejects a file that does not match.
Import modes
Three modes control how the file interacts with allowances already in the system.

|---|---|---|
| Remove and create | Clears existing allowances and loads the file fresh. | First load, or a deliberate full replacement. |
| Merge with Existing Allowance | Updates matching allowances and adds new ones. | Correcting or extending what is already there. |
| Append with end of existing allowance | Adds the file's rows after the existing ones, changing nothing. | Adding a new set without touching current definitions. |
Remove and create deletes what is there. On a system already running payroll, choose merge or append unless you genuinely intend a full replacement.
Errors and exports
If rows fail, the system returns your file with a Memo column added, naming the problem on each bad row — fix those rows and upload again. Every module supports export as well as import, so you can pull current data out in the same format.
