Job Cards
A job card is one operation of a work order given to somebody to do. It names the item, the operation, the work centre, who it is assigned to and when it is scheduled. The people doing the work acknowledge it, and can report a defect or flag a hindrance rather than simply not doing it.
Raising one
Job cards belong to a work order and are added from it. A card needs its work order — it cannot exist on its own.
| Field | Notes |
|---|---|
| Card Reference | The card's own number. |
| Work Order / Item | What it belongs to. |
| Operation | What is to be done. Cannot be empty. |
| Work Centre | Where. May be left as No Work Centre. |
| Team / Employee | Assign to a team, an employee, or both. |
| Scheduled From / Scheduled To | When it is planned. |
| Notes | Anything the person doing it needs to know. |
Acknowledgement
A card carries what the person it went to has said about it:
| Status | Means |
|---|---|
| Awaiting | Sent, not yet acknowledged. |
| Accepted | Acknowledged and being worked on. |
| Defect reported | Something is wrong with the material or the work. |
| Hindrance flagged | Something is stopping the work — material missing, a machine down, access blocked. |
The distinction between a defect and a hindrance matters. A defect is a quality problem with the thing being made; a hindrance is something preventing work from happening at all. They go to different people and lead to different actions.
Teams
A card assigned to a team reaches its members, and the team's leader is the one told about it. Teams are set up under Manufacturing settings — see Shop floor settings.
Where they appear
| Screen | Shows |
|---|---|
| Manufacturing → Job Cards | Every card, with its work order, assignment, schedule and acknowledgement. |
| The work order | Its own cards. |
| The employee portal | Cards assigned to that person, where they acknowledge them. |
Printing
Job cards print, with a summary, so the paper can go to the floor where screens cannot.
