Inventory Item Used

Inventory Item Used

Inventory Item Used answers one question: which products is this component part of? Select an item and the screen shows the parent items whose bills of materials call for it — the fastest way to see what a shortage will hold up before it holds it up.

Where to find it

Go to Manufacturing > Inventory Item Used.

How to use it

Select an item. The parent items that use it are listed automatically — there is no search button to press.

What it is for

SituationWhat this tells you
A component is out of stockWhich finished products cannot be made until it arrives.
A supplier raises a priceEvery product whose cost is about to move.
A part is being discontinuedWhich BOMs need reworking before the last of it runs out.
A quality problem is foundWhich production runs could be affected.
Check this before changing or deleting a component item. A part that looks unused on its own may sit inside several bills of materials, and removing it breaks every one of them.

Inventory in a manufacturing business

Stock here covers three states — raw materials waiting to be issued, work in progress sitting against open work orders, and finished goods ready to sell. This screen deals with the first: which raw materials feed which products.
