New Proposal

New Proposal

A Proposal is a written offer sent to win a specific job. It behaves much like a quotation, with one important difference — a proposal can go to a lead as well as a customer, so you can bid for work before the prospect exists as an account.

Where to find it

Go to CRM > New > Proposal.

Steps to Create a New Proposal

  1. Open CRM > New > Proposal.
  2. Choose whether the recipient is a customer or a lead.
  3. Select the party.
  4. Add the items or services with their prices.
  5. Set the validity date and any terms.
  6. Save, then send it.

Field reference

FieldDescription
Recipient typeCustomer or lead. This is the field that makes a proposal different from a quotation.
Customer / LeadWho the offer is for.
ReferenceThe unique identifier for the proposal.
Date / Valid untilWhen it was issued and when the offer expires.
Line itemsWhat is being offered, with quantity and price.
PriceFlexible — a proposal price may be above or below the item's standard price.

Important Notes

Proposal prices are deliberately flexible. Unlike a sales document priced from a sales type, you can quote whatever the bid requires — which is useful, and also means nothing will warn you when a price is below cost.

When a proposal is accepted, convert the lead into a customer if it is not one already, then move the proposal into a sales order to start the fulfilment chain.
